"It!" Cleared Spaces Amy
When did your passion for helping people Organize their possessions begin?
In 2002, we decided to rent our waterfront home for the summer. I had to get very organized. I cleared out all closets, bedrooms cupboards and breakable objects. It was a huge undertaking, with four children under 6 and 2 large dogs.
After that summer, I unpacked all the items and returned them to their perspective places. A lot of work. The next summer I did the clearing again, however, when we returned I did not unpack it all. I noticed that we did not need a lot of that "stuff".
If the kids asked for something, I knew where it was and I brought it back. It turned out that they asked for very little.
I began to clear and donate. I became incredibly organized. I knew I could help others.
I started Cleared Spaces in January of 2008.
Do you think too much attachment to personal belongings holds people back?
I do believe that too much attachment to personal things holds people back from de-cluttering. Many people believe that their items will be useful in the future, even if they truly have no need. There can also be a sentimental value attached or idea that something is irreplaceable. Bargain shopping is another culprit, as it was a "DEAL" so I have to keep it.
Attachment is the root and creates much suffering in our society, especially in FF County. Sometimes the more you have, the more "stuck" or "overwhelmed" you feel. It is so freeing to clear what we no longer love, use or need.
I believe that you should love and/or use everything in your home. If it no longer serves you, take a picture of it and get rid of it!!!
I can help you decide what stays and what goes……

What types of services do you offer your clients?
I offer many services for my clients:
* Downsizing for seniors and divorces
* Helping families manage household day-to-day storage efficiently
* Pack & unpack
* Better decisions about belongings
* Creating MORE storage in the home
* Maintaining order with a maintenance package
* Take away donations &/or arrange removal of large items
Should I get a storage container?
Unless you live in a 250 square foot studio apartment in midtown NYC, they are a BAD idea. They suck down your cash. The chance of you ever using storage container content is about 2%.
Have a tag sale?
No. Most things do not have the value you are seeking and a tag sale take hours of preparation. Price compare your large items on Craigslist and smaller ones on EBAY. You will be amazed at what little value they have. Instead, donate and take that tax write off. It's so freeing to give back to those in need and clear your space!
How does your background as a Kripala certified yoga/meditation instructor play in to helping people get better Organized?
I trained to become a yoga/meditation instructor in 2012, and I realized how it helped clear clutter from my mind and my body.
My goal, is to help clients feel a new perspective from within, “you really do not need much stuff to be happy if you work from the inside out.”
My clearing techniques leave clients feeling more authentic, centered, spacious, and relaxed.
I purchased Two Hours of Organization Services from Living Social for Eric, my fiance. I wanted to say thank you for the great work you did with Eric. You transformed him. He is so open now to getting rid of the clutter. Half of his clothes are going to charity, most of the papers he’s been keeping are shredded, items from his conferences given away. Having grown up with parents who were also “collectors” it was stressful for me living with the clutter and it is now uncomfortable for Eric. Success!!! Our house is organized and manageable. Yay! His office looks fantastic. Thank you!

I have worked with Amy for the past 2 years. I keep having her come back and organize different areas in my home. I would be lost without her. Because I know how to reach her, I am able to calm down and give her a call and know it will all be sorted out and that makes me happy!

I own and operate my own Interior Decorating business “Heidi Lyme Interiors.” I have had clients who simply needed organizing with various parts of their home. For example: organizing clothes , books , kitchen cupboards, simply getting rid of Stuff that they find difficult to do. The things, we all put in the to hard basket. I can’t praise Amy enough on her ability to organize not only house hold items but all aspects of life. Congratulations on your show, I know will be a huge success.
