"Barbaresco Heaven!" with Legendary Winemaker Andre Sottimano

Fairfield County "It!"

​had a delicious time tasting Winemaker Andrea Sottimano's Barbaresco
and other wines from his Piedmont vineyard at the
New Canaan Wine Merchants in New Canaan, CT.

Andrea Sottimano's vineyard is in Barbaresco, Italy famous for its delicious wines made from the Nebbiolo Grape.  

Barbaresco wine is often called the "Queen of Wine" in Italy and is wonderful drunk on its own or paired with food.

At Sottimano's vineyard they practice sustainable and biodynamic agriculture which means they do not use any chemicals at their vineyard and ward off disease, bugs and animals with natural repellents.

We had the opportunity to taste three Sottimano Barbaresco wines. 

Andrea explained the primary difference in the taste was due to the soil.  His vineyard has at least three distinct soils despite close proximity.

The first vines were planted in clay with sand.  
The second with sand and limestone and
the third were planted in soil that was predominantly limestone.

​  There was a noticeable difference in each Barbaresco
and I preferred the limestone influenced wine.  You could easily taste and smell the dry chalky influence of the stone soil.
