24 Hours in Newport, Rhode Island!

What a fantastic, historic & delightful place to spend a day or a life, Newport - Rhode Island!

Fairfield County "It!" enjoyed 24 hours in Newport, Rhode Island.

We were there during the "Newport International Boat Show".  

One of my friends
owns an unoccupied boat dock on Long Island Sound
and was in search of a captain with a boat!  
Just kidding (sort of).   

It is a great event to explore the latest in yachts and other sea vessels.

​Then we were off to the
"Cliff Walk" a stunning trail with sea, natural beauty and some large cottages.  

Parts of the walk are easy and other areas are more treacherous.  
We chose easy,
due to our shoes and
​hiking skills.  

Afterward we headed back to the downtown waterfront to enjoy an appetizer at the trendy, upscale
"The Grill at Forty 1 North".  

It is has a colonial exterior,
with a contemporary interior
and great outside dining
with a large bar in the back
and gorgeous view
​overlooking the water.
 
I had the "Peeky Toe Crab Balls".  Round bites full of fresh crab!

 The next morning we set off to
tour the summer cottages of the well-to-do
of the Gilded Age.

Vanderbilt summer cottage.

I was interested to hear from a Newport Insider that
Vanderbilt descendants
still occupy the boys wing of the house.  

Be sure to grab a silver tray and slide down the staircase!

We decided to go to the
"Black Pearl" for lunch.  
Famous for their Clam Chowder.

We enjoyed the dark and cozy interior of this 1920's structure
and award winning restaurant.

I came up with a new tasty way to enjoy Clam Chowder,

pair it with a sparkling wine
to cut the warm & creamy
clam filled soup.

An excellent combination!

There is so much more to do and see in delightful
​Newport, Rhode Island.  

I cannot wait to go back!
