Fairfield County "It!"had the opportunity to talk to Telly Leung, star of Broadway's Aladdin, about his career, upcoming concert at Wall Street Theater in Norwalk and release of favorite songs "I'll Cover You".
I asked Telly what about him sets his talent apart from others and contributed to his amazing career on Broadway and TV (Glee).
He said overall there are not that many roles or shows that feature Asian actors, but he was lucky to have the opportunity, when he got out of Carnegie Mellon's School of Drama in 2002, to audition for the revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein's
"Flower Drum Song".
The timing of that production just as he graduated was very fortunate for his career launch.
I asked him about his worst moment on stage.
"White Room". White Room is what actors call being on stage and forgetting what show you are in, the next line etc. He says it happens to all actors. To recover from White Room you look around the stage for clues, or the conductor or a stage hand throws you a line of some sort to get you back into character. No matter how often you perform occassionally White Room will show up and steal the scene.
featuring some of his favorite songs from varying genres interpreting them in his unique fashion.
Telly is performing Monday, December 11, 2017 at the renovated historic Wall Street Theater in Norwalk. I asked him about the upcoming show.
He told me he loves doing cabaret and club acts and was very excited when Billy Blanks reached out to him to play at this new performing arts space. The performance will also include top Broadway talent and is not to be missed!
