A Divine Wine Time with winemaker Eric Johnson of Talley Wines

​The Talley family owns six unique vineyards comprising 190 acres in Coastal San Luis Obispo County, California.

The coastal location produces a long cool season and is one of the worlds best locations to grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. ​

We got to meet Winemaker Eric Johnson​.  He is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he studied Wine and Viticulture and Agricultural Business Management.

“I believe that the world’s greatest wines are defined by place as opposed to winemaking manipulation.”
​ “A great winemaker needs flair, imagination and the inspiration of divine discontent.”

 The grapes are hand harvested and contain only natural yeast. Each vineyard produces unique wines representative of the distinctive area where they are produced.

The Chardonnays we tasted were  balanced with just enough oak to steady the acidity.
The Pinot Noirs were elegant with the taste and aroma of ripe fruit and spice. 

According to the Wine Institute,  “The coastal areas of California are highly prized wine grape growing regions due to their proximity to the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean and a wide diversity of soils and topography.  This long stretch of land is ideal for the cultivation of classic wine grape varieties and the production of world-class wines.”
